Healthy, homemade mango salsa

B and I made fish tacos the other night and accompanied it with this homemade mango salsa. During our trip to the grocery store, I suggested that we buy a jar of pre-made mango salsa, not thinking that it’d be a huge deal breaker. After all, it was already past 7 p.m. and I was starving. Boy, was I wrong. B looked at me like I was nutso and insisted that we make our own. Reluctant to give in at first (that’s the leo in me), I agreed.

Let’s just say that B knows a thing or two about salsa. It’s incredible. It’s fresh. It’s quick + easy. Oh, and it’s INEXPENSIVE. Our total cost came to just around $3, which is cheaper and healthier than the store-bought version that’s loaded with preservatives.


1 medium sized mango, diced
1/4 red onion, diced
1 jalapeño pepper, diced
3 tbsp fresh lime juice (or juice from 2 large limes)
Fresh cilantro
Pinch of salt (optional)
Pinch of pepper (optional)
Avocado (optional)


Place the diced up mango, red onion, jalapeño, and cilantro into a bowl. Add fresh lime juice and mix with a spoon. Add salt and pepper for desired taste.

Although we did not use avocado in our salsa, you may want to add it to your recipe if it’s too acidic or spicy.

Prepare to have your mind blown. You will literally think twice before buying another jar of salsa off the shelf. My fish taco recipe will be out tomorrow!
