My first post on this blog was a review of foundations. That was back in August 2012. I don’t have any major updates other than I am having a few growing pains with bareMinerals. I tried bareMinerals because I wanted to be what I like to call, “skin healthy.” I have dry skin as it is so it has been quite the struggle, especially living in such a dry climate. Darn you, San Francisco!
I’ve been so fed up with my makeup routine lately and need some help! What are your foundation recommendations? I’ve been currently wearing L’Oreal Lumi, which is holding me over until I find The One. I’m looking for a liquid foundation that I can wear everyday; preferably one with light to medium coverage. As far as price goes, I’m entertaining all ends of the spectrum. I’ll pay big bucks for a flawless finish. No powder. Powder is a hard limit.
Muchas gracias!

I’m obsessed with my Make Up For Ever foundation. Don’t plan on switching any time soon!
Thanks A! I have heard good things about that company. Definitely trust your recc – your face is flawless! Xo
I have very dry skin too! It was a difficult transition moving back up north from the Florida climate. I discovered after many trials and FAILS that the right skin care is the main focus. Im using a great Vitamin C serum, Obagi Professional C 15%, a medical barrier cream (Epionce), and Estee Lauder BB Cream in light. The BB cream has tons of good moisture and sunscreen properties and gives a glowy flawless even finish. Loving that combo right now:)
Kara, thanks for this! I am working with an esthetician (from Tampa!) to get me on the right skin care regiment. The BB cream sounds great. I just discovered how great they are and am searching for the perfect one so I appreciate the recc!! Hope all is well with you. Xo
Girl, I feel your pain. I used Bare Minerals religiously for years, but when I moved up to the bay area and decided to actively fight my acne it failed me. I know the horrors of the flaky powder… Yikes!!
I went to Sephora and was highly recommended the Dior Nude foundation. I just finished the bottle, but I’m trying to decide if I’ll repurchase it or go with another brand… Let me know what you end up finding. I’m in the same exact boat.
xoxo
Ugh, dry skin is the worst!! It’s good to know I am not alone. I love everything about the SF Bay Area except for what it is doing to my skin. If you’re not 100% in love with the Dior Nude, don’t settle until you find The One. Haha… are we dating our make up?
Nichole – I am in love with my Clinique BB Cream. I have dry skin too and it works like a charm – the perfect blend for coverage and hydration! http://bit.ly/TgG6zt
Awesome, thanks Lauren! I will check it out
I have dry, sensitive, eczema prone skin… and best of all I live in freaking cold Canada! So I totally understand the struggles of finding a foundation that isn’t irritating or doesn’t settle into your dry patches. In my experience I’ve found that paying for the high end foundations is TOTALLY WORTH IT! I used to use Chanel Vitalumiere (amazing!) but mix it with a bit of Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer to make it a little less dewy. Now I’ve found the Dior Hydralife BB Cream, and it is everything I could ask for! It hydrates my skin, makes it look fresh and awake, evens out my skin, lasts all day (wouldn’t recommend it if you are oily) and best of all doesn’t make me break out in acne or eczema one bit! Sorry if I rambled, but I hope that was helpful.
Alma, you’re amazing!! Thanks for all of this! Sounds like you’ve done your fair share of market research. I love BB cream and am absolutely going to try the Dior Hydralife. Thanks!
I’m obsessed with Arbonne’s Perfecting Liquid Foundation. It has skin-firming properties that lift the appearance of facial contours, smooth and even skin tone, and provides broad-spectrum sun protection. It is like putting on a second layer of skin. I can never believe the difference in my appearance when I put it on. It’s the only foundation I’ll wear.
Other recommendations for one of our Assistant Color Buyers at Sephora are below:
Josie Matchmaker Liquid foundation—seriously fits every shade of skin, expensive but worth it considering skincare benefits and all natural ingredients
CoverFX Cream Foundation—this guy is one of our only full coverage cream foundations we carry, known for their shade range and clinical skincare benefits
Tarte Maracuja liquid foundation—again w awesome skincare benefits, medium coverage but buildable
CoverFX Mineral Powder foundation—this was created by the guy who made Mac Studio Fix foundation! Very similar texture and shade range—any Studio Fix person could find a match in this collection
Smashbox BB Cream—not a foundation, but for those who want just a smidge of sheer coverage and skincare benefits. It’s like tinted moisturizer on crack.
Thanks Kristina! I just picked up the Tarte BB cream from Sephora this weekend along with a sample of the Tarte Maracuja liquid foundation. Appreciate all the great recommendations
bobbi brown tinted balm is the only foundation i’ve ever fallen in love with. her face oil is amazing also.
Awesome, thanks Nicole! I have actually never tried any Bobbi Brown products so I definitely need to give them a try.
Tarte Smooth Operator foundation is amazing.
I’m obsessed with Tarte products! I just picked up samples of all the Tarte foundations this weekend so I could see what I like.
I think you would love Jane iredale glow BB cream!
Will you write a post on eye makeup (liners and mascaras)?
Hi Theresa, thanks for the recommendation. And yes, I can do a post on eye liners & mascaras. Stay tuned
I just did the makeup look for an event last weekend. It’s such a cool look!
